So here is my top 5 of my timeline it's not in order of importance it's just in the time that it happens it starts the farthest back and then it works closer to the Future.
1) Fund raiser dinner
@5:30pm 6-17-06
I've gone to this non- profit’s fundraiser dinner for years, even before it was on my timeline. The woman who gave me a computer was a big sponsor of this event and I always enjoyed seeing her and learning things from her. One of my goals in life was to be at least half as generous as she is to other people with my time, energy and money to make society and the culture a better place. I don't know if I will live up to that but that is what I strive for instead of the materialism, status and the overall consumption that consumes our society as a whole. I want to help people lift up all boats and just do good things.
2) Iowa vs. Northern Illinois game
10-28-06
This was my first and only time at a University of Iowa game for football at Kinnick Stadium. I remember there were tons of people here it was one of the last activities that my dad and my uncle did along with me or one of the few they ever did I guess. I'm thinking I might go to a Hawkeye game again but in all reality I don't care for football and what I remember more about this game was the people I rode with in the car the fancy Cadillac tipping a guy 50 bucks to park in his yard the camaraderie that is happening with alcohol football and a university that that's kind of the peak and end all be all of the culture especially in Iowa where there's no major league sports. I don't mind having sports on in the background on a television but I just have never been a fan of playing sports at least the football basketball baseball variety I don't file sports but I've enjoyed some baseball games both the Cubs and the minor leagues as I was able to walk around and take pictures eat at the concession stands and it wasn't insanely packed.
3) Joined DeMolay
9-27-07
This was my gateway drug to Freemasonry a friend of my dad's was elected Grand Master of Iowa Masons around this time he helped me get into DeMolay which I really enjoyed I met a lot of younger people around my age I even ended up becoming Master Counselor of the local Lodge for 6 month term which was interesting I learned a lot from that. Later on I would become a Master Mason In a local Lodge and an officer in that lodge too. I feel like the Grand Lodge of Iowa with all its books and resources as well as the local lodges have really helped me expand my intellectual thought process and also my social circle.
4) Got my 1st personal computer
8-3-08
I got this computer from my Mom's best friend who I mentioned above. Both mom and her friend are very kind and generous people. This computer is a Dell Dimension 4600 model with a floppy disk drive, a DVD drive, a full version of Microsoft Office 2003 with Publisher, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. I never connected this computer to the internet when I got it. I used it just to work on school work. I still use it today for mostly creating art, at least electronic art, whether it's a small Word book or something in Publisher. I really enjoy using this little computer. It still has Windows XP on it. It’s the only computer I have that has the Microsoft Office suite on it. All my other computers have Libreoffice. I wrote a number of books on this computer. When I was growing up, the Internet and the computer were up and coming things, but “dial up” was the norm and utilization of computers were minimal. It’s amazing the amount of stuff I could still do on this old PC. I do like having a non-Internet connected computer that even has Encarta and Britannica encyclopedias on it, as well as Microsoft Money and a number of other old school, non-internet-connected software that is still useful to this day.
5) Created this timeline word document Sunday, 8-24-08, 7:16:53 PM.
This document was created at the above time. My mother always uses paper calendars and she had quite a bit of documentation on them. I like having them backed up in Word documents too. I think it is interesting to look at the time and the date when things occurred. I want to continue using this timeline for the next 15 years, and possibly, for the rest of my life. I have certain things that I write about, such as my 101 Goals for 1001 Days. All of these types of writing are just me intellectually documenting and preserving my thoughts, whether it's through the written form like this, or a video. I am my own historical archivist. I think it gives some background information on me and shares some of the technological things I use to organize my thoughts and feelings. Buster Benson is a role model and inspiration to me because I use his 750words.com website for writing exercises almost every day and have enjoyed a lot of his other documentation tools that he has used throughout his lifetime. I am now in my 30s, but it feels like in the blink of an eye, I went from a teenager to a “30 something.” In some ways, it also feels like it was a long, drawn out, painful process, depending on if I have my rose-colored glasses on, and how I'm feeling. But when I read about myself in different stages of my life, I can compare and learn from my variety of thoughts and, hopefully, be a better person because of it.
